Executive Summary – December 2007
The Fair Oaks Village Enhancement Committee (FOVEC) was formed in October 2007, as a working group of property owners, business owners, staff from various Sacramento County Departments, and other stakeholders to evaluate improvements that would enable Fair Oaks Village to increase its viability as a thriving business district. FOVEC related work is being coordinated by the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento County Department of Transportation.
The committee held a workshop on November 28th, 2007, to gain input from the community concerning issues that affect the village and to help identify improvement opportunities. Mike Notestine, principle with Mogavero Notestine Associates, led the workshop which was promoted though direct mail postcards and a poster which was placed at various locations in the village. The workshop was well attended with approximately 80 participants.
The attendees were divided into nine groups and were asked to perform various tasks including: review of a Community Image PowerPoint survey and rankings; completion of a four part questionnaire regarding the Village; and, participation in an open forum to “brainstorm” actions that could be implemented to improve the Village.
Results of the workshop show that there aremany important issues that affect the Village including:
· Lack of parking
· Increased traffic
· Pedestrian access/sidewalks
· ADA compliance
· Overall traffic safety
· Streetscape improvements
· Safety & lighting
· Improve architecture of buildings
· Rundown property/vacant property
· Additional walking traffic
· Keeping the character of the Village
· Building & keeping businesses
· Keeping the quality of businesses
